Feather Awards 2010

Normally we would want to shoot ourselves or hang ourselves on the nearest trees when we think about attending award ceremonies. This is because award ceremonies tend to take forever to end, and the performances often make one cringe and feel embarrassed for the performer. It was our first time at the Feather Awards this year, and we were immediately impressed.

The performances, categories, crowd, MC, and general feel of this event were amazing. People were dressed to impressed. Opulence seemed to be the order of the evening, as people brought out their best jewellery, suits and garments. All the people one can actually call South African celebrities; Dion Chang, Sashi Naidoo, Dineo Ranaka, HHP, and Lira, were there.

The MC, Somizi, or should I say “Madame Gigi”, made sure that no one fell asleep during the proceedings. He blessed us with his hilarious view of SA entertainers, making jokes about their careers, including his own. I remember looking around and seeing some people laughing hard enough to end up in tears. Nothing and no one was off limits, including his fellow drag queen friend, Iko Mash. Somizi’s opening performance left us jaw dropped. It was well planned, and one could tell that they rehearsed well, which is why their product was so amazing.


The wine was amazing. The food was incredible, and the people serving us were even more appetising than the food they were serving. We liked how intimate the event was, and we hope it stays that way next year. That feeling of exclusivity is probably what made so many VIPs pitch. 

By the way, if you are hoping to read something negative about this event, we’re sorry, because we honestly do not have it. It was a well planned event, and we really couldn’t identify any flaws.

Subsequent to the award ceremony, Khanyi Mbau invited us to her party at Zar in Sandton and we couldn’t attend. It was a Wednesday evening after all. We hear that Zar was amazing. People arrived home when we woke up. We cannot wait for the third annual Feather Awards. Dleng!!!

I love Dineo Ranaka (Feather 2010 Fang Hag of the year), and it hurts me to have to do this. Whyyyy? That outfit, I mean costume, doesn't make sense to me. I will leave it it your hands to butcher it as much as you want.

Mpho Maboi: If you understand what is going on with this outfit, please help us out. ??? o_O ???
